GCPS Approves JA Academy for Norcross High School
The Gwinnett County Board of Education on Thursday listened to plans to bring a JA Academy to Norcross High School. The JA Acadmey will be based on the "school within a school" model starting in August of 2016. The program will include an entrepreneurial incubator and be open to all students in the Norcross cluster through an application process.
In its initial year the program will be open to 9th grade and serve approximately 150 students, but it will eventually grow to include all grades and approximately 600 students. Flynt added the JA Academy would begin as a sort of case study. The Academy model blends relevant content, project-based learning and problem-solving practices to realistic workplace experiences within the learning process.
